Brendan's
Graduate Showcase
From Melbourne School of Fashion
Brendan Smith began his fashion studies in 2010 at Melbourne School of Fashion studying men's and women's tailoring. With a spark in his eye for couture, his second year focused on bespoke garments for men's and women's wear. His final year graduate collection in 2013 was entirely women's haute couture – 'A Pocket Full of Posies'.
The theme of 'A Pocket Full of Posies' is a vintage travelling trunk for a haute couture human doll. Each look is playful, glamorous, royal, chic, va va voom with a hint of cheekiness. There's nothing else to be desired.
This collection explores exaggerated feminine silhouettes with lavish hiplines, moulded bustiers, resin corsetry, sheer framing of overlays and underlays, contoured bodysuits and cocooned necklines. Designed and made from luxurious vintage and modern fabrics and trims, featuring delicate appliquéd French lace, soft tulles and sequinned faux fur with hints of neutral blush, beige colours with a shimmer of gold detailing.

in Brendan's words
"Finally the day of my graduation is here, what a journey this last year of my fashion course has been from research development, concepts, prototypes, long days and nights designing my first collection. 'A Pocket Full of Posies' was a very exciting, elaborate and exaggerated project to work on with a lot of fine attention to detail. I feel like I took this to another level and I guess the beginning of my design style.
It was a successful and great night to celebrate this massive achievement with my family, close friends and fellow students. Thank you to my supporters through this final year and more importantly thank you Melbourne School of Fashion to let me run free with my ideas".
